TEN81 Tips: Dealing with bullying

“I realised that bullying never has to do with you. It’s the bully who’s insecure” – Shay Mitchell

As we celebrate our youth this month, TEN81 looks at bullying, and how to deal with it.

• Don’t react to the bully
• Try to remain calm. Don’t show the bully how you feel
• Show confidence. Even if you don’t feel confident, act like you do
• Look the bully in the eye and tell them to stop, but don’t get into a confrontation. Walk  away
• If possible, have a talk with the bully if the right opportunity arises
• Stay connected and hang out with a group – bullies will try to isolate you.
• Involve an adult, someone you trust, or professional person. Talk about it
• Act quickly. The longer the bully gets away with it, the more power they have over their victims
• Don’t blame yourself. The problem lies with the bully, not you
