Chemsex: Protect yourself

Chemsex: Protect yourself

Chemsex is when gay, bi or other men who have sex with men (MSM) use any or a combination of drugs such as crystal methamphetamine, cat, mephedrone and/or GHB/GBL before or during sex.

It’s usually, but not always, used by men who hook up with other men through dating sites and apps.

As Chemsex often occurs without condoms and / or with injecting drugs it can come with a number of health risks, such as an increased chance of HIV infection.

PrEP is a daily pill that has shown to be extremely effective in stopping HIV infection and is worth considering for those who engage in Chemsex. (It does not, however, protect you from other STIs.)

To find out more details and to get PrEP for free from the TEN81 clinic in Pretoria, call us on 012 430 3272. We offer a friendly, professional and confidential service to gay, bi and other MSM.
